RESULTS
LA MIRADA, Calif. – A mixture of team and individual success made California Baptist University's debut in the 2015-16 season -- well, successful.
At the PCSC Pentathlon, the Lancers rang up the most points out of the six teams in attendance and even bested NCAA Division I Pepperdine in the standings with 650.5 points. Pepperdine finished with 633, while Azusa Pacific (454) and Fresno Pacific (258.5) took third and fourth behind the Waves.
"We were missing two of our big swimmers, but we still beat a Division I program and that's always good," Coach Rick Rowland said.
Yosita Hapsari started her season with three wins in her five events. The senior also grabbed an NCAA Division II B-cut time in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 51.83 seconds, which was well under the 52.35 standard. Hapsari also won the 100 back (59.23) and 200 individual medley (2:09.18).
While one Lancer was starting her final season on a high note, another was debuting in splendid fashion. Ashley Johnson, a true freshman, showed she's certainly ready for the next level by winning the 50 free (24.73) and 100 IM (1:01.63).
"It was a great day, we showed our depth on both ends today," Rowland said. "We are starting out a lot faster this year."
