BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – California Baptist University knew it was going to be in for a challenge when it traveled to NCAA Division I Cal State Bakersfield Wednesday. That's just what the Lancers wanted heading into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II Super West Region Championships.
CBU walked out of Bakersfield with two individual victories, as David Dill and Matt Hickman both proved victorious in a 28-6 loss. Both wrestlers needed dramatic, one-point decisions to pass by their foes. The Lancers finish the season with a 13-5 dual record. The Roadrunners improve to 7-5.
Dill provided CBU's first win with a 6-3 decision over Bakersfield's Steven Wood at heavyweight. Hickman had to scrap for every point he got in a 3-2 win over CSUB's Andrew Fierro.
The Lancers will have more than two weeks off before they begin the conference and region championships hosted by Colorado-State Pueblo on Feb. 27th and 28th. Top-three finishers in each weight class at the event will advance to the Division II Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.
