INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — After hanging in the No. 9 ranking spot for most of the season, California Baptist University one-upped itself with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet.
The Lancers finish their season on a high-note, grabbing a total of 181 points at the championships, just three points behind seventh-place LIU Post. Queens won the title with 540.5 points over the four days.
"It was a great meet overall," said head coach Rick Rowland. "Our goal was a top-10 finish and we did that. I'm very happy with progression in program. We have some big shoes to fill, especially with Mary [Hanson], but hope to come back next year and improve again."
Two Lancers continued to pick up All-American nods with Mary Hanson and Alena Rumiantceva each grabbing second place in their respective events.
Hanson took the silver medal in the 200-meter back, clocking in at one minute, 56.85 seconds, not far off from the champion's 1:55.71 time.
While the 200-yard breast wasn't really a contest as Lynn's Rebecca Matthews claimed the title in record-setting fashion (2:10.77), Rumiantceva had to battle for her second-place finish. She overcame a fourth seed after the preliminary round to touch in at 2:13.32, beating out LIU Post's Caroline Rademacher at 2:13.61.
Hanson added her second All-American honor of the day by teaming up with Hailey Golden, Robin Smallwood and Yosita Hapsari to finish in seventh in the 400-yard free relay. The foursome clocked in at 3:25.45.
After taking eighth on the 1-meter platform, Breanne Schlenger added All-American honorable mention to her name Saturday. The sophomore took 11th place on 3-meter platform with a score of 430.40.
