Angelic Landing for Hofacket

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Adam Hofacket became California Baptist University's fourth-highest drafted player in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Tuesday afternoon when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took him in the 10th round at 315th overall.
It extends CBU's streak of having a player selected in the MLB Draft to six years in a row. Twenty-six Lancers have been drafted over the last 33 years, with 15 players taken during Coach Gary Adcock's 12-year tenure. There are currently three active Lancers in the minor leagues: Caleb Dirks, Trevor Oaks and Sharif Othman.
If Hofacket does not return to CBU for his senior season, he will go down as the owner of the second-lowest earned run average in program history. His 2.66 career ERA only takes a backseat to Oaks' 1.86 ERA from 2014. It gives Hofacket the lowest ERA of any Lancers multi-year pitcher, as Oaks was at CBU for one season before being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh round at 219 overall.
Hofacket, a Corona native, is a two-time All-PacWest and All-West Region pitcher. He also ranks fifth in career strikeouts (198), innings pitched (253.2) and seventh in wins (19) and complete games (7) in the CBU record books.
As a junior this past year, he ranked 13th in NCAA Division II in strikeouts, with 98 on the year. His 2.26 ERA average was the 56th best mark in Division II. He maintained it over 14 starts, which was the 27th most in the division. His tidy 1.02 WHIP checked in at 42nd in the nation.
Cementing himself as the workhorse of the staff, Hofacket logged 103.1 innings on the mound and allowed just a .225 batting average. He threw four complete games, one shutout and struck out a personal career-high 11 batters in a playoff game against PacWest rival Dixie State on May 14th. It delivered a complete-game gem 2-1 victory over the Red Storm.
The MLB Draft continues with rounds 11 through 40 Wednesday starting at 10 a.m., with Andy Crowley looking to be selected, as well. The draft can be followed at MLB.com.
