SANTA BARBARA, CA --- Right-hander Bryan Peck tossed six shutout innings, and Connor Ross hit two home runs, as the Lancers took down No. 25 UC Santa Barbara on Monday evening. The win, an 8-3 final against a future conference foe, marks the second 40-win season of CBU's Division I era.
The 2026 squad joins the 2021 Lancers as the two teams to win 40 games. CBU will look to set a new DI era record later this week when they visit UC Davis.
Peck was nearly untouchable during his six innings on the mound. The right-hander is no stranger to pitching in Santa Barbara, as he joined the Lancers after a successful career with Westmont College. In his return to Santa Barbara, the right-hander allowed only one hit while striking out three.
The win is Peck's seventh of the season as he improves to 7-1 in his first Division I campaign.
CBU's bats did their part in the win, starting with Connor Ross, who hit his 13th and 14th home runs of the season. Ross got his day going in the third with a two-run, opposite-field shot. He left the yard again in the sixth with a solo blast to left center.
Ross' second shot was one of two home runs in the inning. Cole Howarth also homered, a two-run shot that pushed CBU's lead to 7-0. Ross finished the night 3-for-4, adding a double and four RBI. Bryce McFeely, who was teammates with Peck at Westmont, added three hits in his return to Santa Barbara.
The Gauchos were held off the scoreboard for seven innings on Monday but finally tacked on three runs in the eighth. The runs came courtesy of two hits and a CBU error.
Alfredo Capacete was charged with the three runs (two earned) as part of 1.1 innings of relief work. Capacete struck out three in his appearance. Cameron Teper also made an appearance out of the bullpen and struck out the two batters he faced.
Zachary Yates also made an appearance out of the bullpen, a one-two-three ninth inning.
The Lancers will wrap up the regular season later this week when they travel north for a three-game series against UC Davis. The season-ending series will begin on Wednesday and wrap up with a Friday matinee.
CBU is currently second in the WAC standings and will watch the scores from around the conference trickle in this week, as their seed in the WAC Tournament is still undecided. The 2026 WAC Baseball Tournament will begin next week from Mesa, AZ. The top two seeds will open the postseason on Thursday.
