DAVIS, CA --- On Monday, the Lancers matched the DI era record for the most wins in a single season, and on Wednesday, they broke it. In game one of the final series of the regular season, the Lancers topped UC Davis, 6-3, to win their 41st game of the season.
The 41-win season surpasses the 40-win mark set by the 2021 squad. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Lancers sit 41-13.
CBU wasted no time tacking runs on the board as Connor Ross doubled down the left field line to plate Chris Ramirez just two batters into the game. Two spots later, Cole Hansen drove home Ross on a single to right center.
The first inning rally continued with a two-run homer from Eric Ruiz that registered at 117 mph off the bat.
Davis scored their three runs on one swing in the bottom of the fourth. Originally called a foul ball by the first base umpire, the crew discussed what was a fly ball down the left field line and determined that it was fair, giving the Aggies a three-run home run.
Those runs were credited to right-hander Ryne Palmer, who started Wednesday's series opener. Palmer earned the win, his fifth of the season, after striking out five over his four innings on the mound.
The Lancers got two of those runs back in the top of the fifth when a perfectly executed hit-and-run saw Connor Ross drive the ball through the right side and plate Ramirez and Diesel Toth.
Ramirez ended the game 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. His 90 hits are the second most in Division I. Ross, Hansen, and Toth also recorded a pair of hits in Wednesday's win.
Head coach Gary Adcock used three arms out of the bullen. Cameron Tepe allowed one hit over 1.2 innings on the mound. Kody Smathers then recorded three outs while allowing one hit. Zachary Yates entered the game with two runners on and two out in the eighth, but he got out of the jam unscathed and followed it with a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.
The series will continue on Thursday with a 6 p.m. start in Davis. The regular season then concludes on Friday with a noon first pitch.
