RESULTS
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Just one day after the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, California Baptist University jumped right back in the pool in for the Maverick Last Chance Meet.
Instead of swimming for wins, the Lancers swam for times on a short and long course in preparation for the NCAA Division II Championships and other national competitions. Several CBU swimmers came away with impressive times.
First and foremost, Jean Pierre Monteagudo earned a D-II consideration time in the 400-yard individual medley, as he finished in four minutes, 5.44 seconds.
"Now he can swim at nationals," Coach Rick Rowland said. "He will get invited in the 200 fly, so now he will swim three events at nationals and two relays, so five in all."
Andrea Laliena notched her national cut, making her eligible to compete for Spain, on the 100-meter backstroke. She finished in a time of 1:07.17.
After an impressive RMAC Championship debut, Justin Quiroga impressed Rowland once again when he swam the 100-meter butterfly in 56.53.
"That's a really fast meter time – you translate that to yards and it's under 50," Rowland said. "We were really excited about that time for him, he is turning into an incredible swimmer for us."
