CBU Welcomes Nine New Lancers

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — As California Baptist University's women's soccer team reports for camp, nine newcomers will look to add value to the Lancer program.
"We're excited to announce our 2016 incoming class!" said Coach Kristen St. Clair. "We believe this class has versatility, tremendous quality and depth on both sides of the ball. We anticipate that our new players will compete and complement our returning players very well."
Jordan Dow, Miranda Hald and Haley Hollander each bring an attacking presence.
A Temecula, Calif., native, Dow finished a stellar high school career at Chaparral High School. The 5-foot-7 forward was a two-time All-Southwestern League honoree, including first-team recognition as a senior, and was named the Offensive MVP last year.
Hald joins her fellow freshman after graduating from Mission Viesta High in Oceanside, Calif. There, the 5-foot-7 forward was a four-year letterwinner and two-time MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. Last year, Hald led the Timberwolves in scoring to be named the Senior Athlete of the Year.
Hollander rounds out the forwards, coming from Lynden, Wash. The 5-foot-9 incoming freshman was a two-sport athlete, lettering in both soccer and basketball.
Sarah Kenny brings some international experience to the midfield, joining the Lancers from Down Under. The Perth, Australia, native represented Western Australia at the National Youth Outdoor Championship from 2009-14. In high school, Kenny led Santa Maria College to a championship in 2011 and 2014, scoring the game-winning goal in 2014.
Michaela Miller, Makenna Young and Laura Linares can each find time in the midfield or backline, hoping to further lock down the Lancer defense.
Miller was a four-year varsity player at Sisters High School in Sisters, Ore. She grabbed All-Sky-Em League recognition all four years, including three first team honors. Miller's junior year, she was named the Sky-Em League Player of the Year and grabbed All-State accolades.
After finishing her high school season at Valencia High, Young transitions to the collegiate ranks. At VHS, Young captained the Vikings as a senior and was named to the All-Foothill league and All-SCV first teams.
Linares stayed close to home when picking where she wanted to play college soccer. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native knows how to win championships after helping Valley View High to a league title in 2015. The 5-foot-8 defensive player picked up all-league honors as a senior.
Symone Mack will also bring defensive talent to the Lancer backline. The Pleasant Grove High School Defender of the Year and Delta League Player of the Year helped locked down the Eagles defense as a senior.
Perhaps the most important piece to holding CBU's opposition to a low scoring average is the goalkeeper. Presley Moreno will look to do just that between the posts. The 5-foot-11 goalkeeper helped Roosevelt High School make it to the second round of the CIF playoffs last year.
