RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Last season, California Baptist University put together a program-best run in the NCAA Division II postseason. The Lancers will have a chance to one-up themselves this year and go into the playoffs seeded second in West Region.
Stockton's Brookside Country Club will host this year's West/South Central Regional May 8-10. University of the Pacific and Visit Stockton serve as hosts for the event. The top three teams are assured a trip to the Division II Championships May 22-26 at the Reunion Resort in Kissimme, Fla.
CBU took fourth in the region and advanced all the way to match play of the NCAA Division II Championships in 2016. The Lancers, who are ranked 15th and 16th in D-II, are enjoying an even better year so far this season, with three wins and eight top-four finishes.
So far, the Lancers are averaging what would be a single-season record 291.32 a round this season, with a record 10 rounds of par or better, as well. The team set new records in single-round (274), two-round (553) and three-round scores (848).
Earlier this week, CBU took a program-best second at the PacWest Championships. The PacWest champion, BYU-Hawaii, earned the top seed in the West Region, while Dixie State and Holy Names represent the PacWest, as well, as the respective No. 8 and 9 teams.
The California Collegiate Athletic Association has five teams in attendance: No. 3 Chico State, No. 4 Cal State Monterey Bay, No. 5 Cal State East Bay, No. 7 Sonoma State and No. 10 Stanislaus State. Western Washington qualified for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as the sixth seed.
The South Central Region is made up of St. Mary's (Texas), Colorado-Colorado Springs, Midwestern State, St. Edward's, Cameron, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Christian, Dallas Baptist, Colorado State-Pueblo and Texas A&M International – seeded in that order.
