LOS ANGELES – California Baptist University's balanced scoring attack was not enough to lead it past Loyola Marymount on the road Thursday afternoon.
The 12
th-ranked Lancers battled but fell to the No. 20 Lions, 12-8.
Tommy Lotero had 11 saves and a steal in the cage for CBU, while
PJ McDonough,
Dominick Nevarez and
Tanner Shore led the offense with two goals each.
Zach Lowery also had two assists for the Lancers.
CBU saw its six-game winning streak ended, as its record moved to 17-10, 2-2 in the Western Water Polo Association, while Loyola Marymount improves to 9-11, 3-1 in conference. The Lancers will play their first home games in almost a month on Saturday. Fifteenth-ranked Santa Clara visits the Lancer Aquatics Center for another WWPA game at noon Saturday, and No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer visits at 5 p.m. the same day.
LMU scored the first two goals of Thursday's game, but Shore and McDonough led CBU on a 3-0 run. The Lancers went into the second quarter with a 4-3 lead after a goal from
Dominick Nevarez with 39 seconds left in the first.
The Lions fought back and took a 6-4 lead into halftime. Shore scored first for CBU less than a minute into the third quarter to cut the deficit to 6-5, but LMU responded with three-straight goals and held on for the win.
