STOCKTON, Calif. – Justin Cross and Ben Hallam continued to lead California Baptist University on day two of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite on Friday.
Cross and Hallam shot one-over-par 72 and two-over 73, respectively, on Friday to keep themselves in the top-35 individually at the event. The Lancers end day two in 16th place with a 581 (287-294) but are just 13 strokes off eighth place in the deepest field CBU has played in this year, if not ever.
The Lancers are going up against five NCAA Regional teams from last season in attendance at the Stockton Country Club. There are also three top-five teams from the West Coast Conference (WCC), three top-four teams out of the Big West Conference and two top-four squads out of the Mountain West Conference in the field.
Sixteenth-ranked Brigham Young (550) leads the field after it took 24th at the NCAA Championships last year and won the West Coast Conference in 2017. Nevada, the 40th-ranked team in the NCAA, is in second place (552), while San Jose State is in third with a 553. Two regional qualifiers from last year, San Francisco (554) and St. Mary's (555), the runner-up in the WCC last year, currently stand in fourth and fifth place. Â
CBU will tee off Saturday's third and final round starting at 8:45 a.m., with live stats available at Golfstat.Â
Cross, a true freshman, birdied twice and played his first six holes two-under to shoot 72 on Tuesday. It gives him a 141 (69-72) that has him in 24th place individually going into Saturday. Hallam birdied twice and played his final eight holes one-under par to card a 73. He is tied for 31st with a 142 (69-73) going with 18 more holes to play.
Ryan Monsalve and Jack Solis both scored for the Lancers with a 74 and 75, respectively. John Hayes gave CBU a drop score of 77. Monsalve (76-74) and Solis (75-75) are both tied for 77th with 150s, while Hayes has a 151 (74-77).
