Another Offensive Outpour for the Lancers

The Lancers improve to 9-2-1 on the year, 2-1-0 in the Western Athletic Conference with their second-straight victory. The Aggies drop to 1-11-0 overall, 0-2-0 in conference.
"Very proud of the team's heart and execution today and it showed in our performance," said Coach Kristen St. Clair. "The team has been working very hard on our attacking play and it's nice to see the players rewarded for their hard work, and even better that we had multiple players scoring goals."
Juliette Mollenauer-Brown started the scoring spree for the Lancers in the 44th minute to put CBU into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Brown laid off a give-and-go pass to Ari Coronado and fired off a shot to the far post to put the Lancers in front.
"Juliette hit a fantastic bending ball for her first collegiate goal," said St. Clair.
"It was truly a euphoric moment," added Mollenauer-Brown. "It all happened in slow motion and to say I was overcome with joy is an understatement. I ran into the arms of my team and seeing how happy everyone was for me just made the moment so much more incredible for me. I don't think I will ever forget that moment."
Coming out of the half, CBU was hungry for more. In the first minute of the second half, Miranda Hald and Valerie Cortez each got shots off on frame, forcing the Aggie goalkeeper to make two quick saves.
In the 63rd minute, Rebecca Romero added some insurance to up CBU's cushion to 2-0. Miranda Martinez found Romero making a run on the left side of the field, laid off a ball and Romero one-touched it past the goalkeeper into the far post.
Jordan Padgett had a chance in the 84th minute, getting in behind the defense and trying to chip the NM State goalkeeper. The Aggie just managed to get her hands on it to keep it out of the net for the moment, but a minute later, CBU struck again.
Off a corner kick from Kyler Clark, Elisa Soderholm redirected it back to where it came from, where Lanai Navarro was crashing to tuck it home, 3-0.
Carissa Christensen made two saves to preserve the shutout for the Lancers as CBU out-shot NM State 24-to-6 with a 13-to-3 shots on goal advantage.
The Lancers head to Grand Canyon for a Sunday game at 1 p.m., hoping to keep their offensive prowess going.
"We need to continue to work on our consistency for 90 minutes but we're making good strides each day and peaking at the right time," said St. Clair. "Now we turn our focus to GCU on Sunday. They are a strong team and much better than their record indicates, which adds to the challenge of playing on the road."
