IRVINE, Calif. — In its final STUNT games of the year, California Baptist University took on Sacramento State and Vanguard. The Lancers – who rank seventh in the latest STUNT games rankings – dropped a 13-9 loss to the third-ranked (Division I) Hornets, but bounced back with a 16-12 victory over the ninth-ranked Lions.
CBU finishes its first-ever STUNT season with a 3-3 mark.
In the opener, the Lancers won the fourth quarter 5-3, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Hornets. Shelsey Stephens, Kiree Lowe, Janelle Lopez and Emily Jordan all tie for highest rating with a 12 in the game.
CBU took control in the second game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter after scoring in each round. The Lancers increased their lead to 7-1 after the second and 10-3 after the third.
The Lions made things interesting in the final quarter, out-scoring the Lancers 8-7, but it wasn't enough to overpower CBU, which won 16-12. Emily Jordan led the Lancers with a rating of 25, while Megan Hudson and Amanda Drogmuller followed with 23's each.
CBU closes out the rest of the season focusing on its traditional cheerleading competition, going to the Sharp Regionals on March 24. The Lancers will look to defend their National Cheerleaders Association five-time national championship April 5-7 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
