RESULTS
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – California Baptist University held on to its fifth-place finish in the final round of its regular season at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate, an NCAA Division I event, on Tuesday.
The 24th-ranked Lancers of D-II logged their best team score of the week with a 305 in the third round to give it a 936 total (309-322-305). Tournament host UC Santa Barbara won its event with an 894 (209-310-294), while Long Beach State (907) and Cal State Northridge (917) rounded out the top three.
Weber State took fourth with a 925, while CBU topped UC Riverside (939) in the team standings. Long Beach State's Joe Fryer won the individual title with a 220.
Three Lancers shot 77 or better on Tuesday, while its fourth scorer carded an 80. Ryan Monsalve led CBU with a one-over-par 73 – the best individual score from the team this week.
It was Greg Gonzalez who had the best finish of the tournament for the Lancers by taking seventh with a 229 (76-77-76). Monsalve came in 16th with a 234 (77-84-73), while Dan Heron and Ben Hallam both wound up in the top-30 of the individual standings. Heron took 22nd with a 235 (78-77-80) and Hallam was 29th thanks to a 240 (78-85-77).
Matt Harris carded a 243 (78-86-79) on the week and Jack Solis finished with a 248 (80-84-84).
CBU now heads to the PacWest Championship next Monday through Wednesday at the Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Lancers go in as winners of two of their last three Division II tournaments.
