Relays Lead Lancers at CSUB Sprint Classic

BAKERSFIELD – All three relay teams secured top-five finishes for California Baptist University at CSU Bakersfield's Sprint Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Lancers' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hannah Parson, Hannah Houlton, Rita Smirnova, and Isabella Rhodes produced the highlight of the day by taking third in one minute, 38.29 seconds. It helped put CBU in third place out of the five teams in attendance, with 541.5 points.
UC Santa Barbara took first with 597.4 points, and host CSU Bakersfield (562.7) took second. San Jose State took fourth (544.8), and Dixie State came in fifth (517.6).
CBU will take part in the Roadrunner Invite at CSU Bakersfield, while its divers will make their season debut at the Lancer Diving Invite at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Saturday. Both events begin at 10 a.m.
The Lancers produced three other top-five swims on Friday. Emily Longfellow, Faith Brazil, Nicole Cienega, and Rhodes took fifth in the 200-medley relay (1:49.26), while CBU's Mackenzie Degn, Cienega, Kylie Morrison, and Rebeca Oviedo did the same in the 800-free relay (7:56.64).
True freshman Lauren McKenna had the only individual top-five swim in the 100 individual medley (1:00.76). Fellow freshman Brazil finished right behind her in sixth place (1:00.85). Rhodes added a sixth-place swim in the 50 free (24.56), while Oviedo took eighth in the 400 IM (4:36.85).
