Monsalve in Top-5 After Second Round

STOCKTON --- California Baptist University closed out the second round of the Visit Stockton Invitational on Tuesday.
The Lancers showed improvement during the second day, beating Monday's round by 11 strokes with a 5-over-par 293 team score. CBU is currently in 15th with a 304-293=597
As for the rest of the field, San Jose State put together a 7-under-par 281 to stay on top with a 12-under-par 563 total. BYU made one of the biggest climbs on moving day, posting a tournament-best 12-under-par 276 for a 291-276=567 team score. BYU moved up five spots to take sole possession of second, while Long Beach State dropped a spot to third with a 569 team score. Fresno State and Nevada both made significant moves up the leaderboard, as the Bulldogs moved up three spots, and Nevada climbed five to tie with each other at fourth.
Ryan Monsalve mirrored his first-round performance with another 2-under-par 70 to lead the Lancers. Monsalve moved up two spots to sit in a three-way tie for fifth with a 4-under-par 70-70=140. He battled all day during the second round, grabbing birdies on holes 12, 14, 16, 18, 6, and 7 for a team-best six birdies. After bogeys on holes 1 and 2, he answered with back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7 to close out his round.
Michael Sarro finished his day with back-to-back 74's for a 148 to finish T-50th. Like R. Monsalve, Sarro answered two late bogeys with back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7.
John Hayes moved up one spot to place T-74th after shooting 78-74=152, while Dan Heron jumped up seven spots to take T-87th. Heron finished with an 84-75=159. Ivan Monsalve finished his day at T-93rd with an 82-84=166.
Sean Yu of San Jose State held on to his day one position as the individual leader in the 96-player field with an 11-under-par 64-69=133.
CBU will close out the final round of the Visit Stockton Invitational and the fall season on Wednesday, Oct. 23, with a shotgun start set for 8 a.m.
