
WBB Preview: Lancers' Homestand Continues Against New Foes

RIVERSIDE -- California Baptist University is off to a perfect 2-0 start to the 2019-20 season, and will look to extend that streak this week against a pair of new opponents in Ottawa (AZ) University and Alabama A&M.
The Lancers notched huge season-opening wins against Long Beach State (79-70) and CSUN (64-56) last week. They are now 2-0 all-time against The Beach, and improve to 1-1 against the Matadors.
Caitlyn Harper led the Lancers averaging 18 points, 8.5 rebounds and going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Her weekend was highlighted by a career high 22 points against Long Beach State on opening night, where she also tallied nine rebounds and three blocks.
Lexy Ram shined brightest in Saturday's win against the Matadors. She notched her third career double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, a new career-high. Sydney Palma, Georgia Dale and Tiena Afu have all been strong contributors in both victories as well.

The Spirit are a new program, starting just their third competitive season this year in the NAIA. Ottawa has started the year 2-0 for the second time in two years, notching wins over Park University (83-66) and SAGU American Indian College (76-62). They will have a chance to go 3-0 before they arrive in Riverside, as they will face-off with nearby La Sierra on Tuesday night.
Ottawa is currently a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference, the same league CBU once played in and won two regular season titles in (1987-88 & 1989-90), as well as a tournament title (2010-11). The Spirit completed last season in eighth place in the 10-team league, finishing with an overall record of 10-15 and a GSAC total of 4-14.

The Lancers will face-off against Alabama A&M for the first time in program history, but not before the Bulldogs get a game in against San Diego State on Thursday. Alabama A&M opened the season with a tough opponent, dropping game one to a strong Nebraska team, 68-46.
This Alabama A&M team is young, listing just five upperclassmen and eight underclassmen, but despite losing six players from last season, the Bulldogs return 72.9 percent of last years scoring.
Alabama A&M is in search of its first winning season since 2010-11 when they finished 15-13 overall and 11-7 in the SWAC, but the Bulldogs have started to shift the momentum in their favor, increasing their win totals each of the last two seasons.
