Lancers Off To Best Start in Spring Opener

RESULTS
SAN DIEGO – California Baptist University got off to its best start of the year, as its spring season began at the University of San Diego's Farm Intercollegiate on Monday. The Lancers are in fourth place at 18-over par after shooting 300 in the first round and six over in the second.
Seventeenth-ranked Cal leads the 10-team field at four-under par, while Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State are in second and third place at nine and 10 over.
Ben Hallam, John Hayes and Harrison Kingsley led the Lancers to a strong start in round one, as each shot 75 or better. Hallam finished his first 18 at two-under-par 70, while Hayes carded a 73 and Kingsley shot 75.
With about 21 holes left to play, Hallam is tied for fourth at one-over par, as he is currently three over with one hole left in the second round. Hayes is six over par overall after shooting five over in the second round, while Kingsley is in 27th at seven-over par at four over through 16 holes of round two.
Ryan Monsalve and Connor Benjamin have both been much improved in round two. Monsalve is tied 40th at 10-over par after he shot 82 in the first round and is even par through his next 16.
Benjamin, who is making his collegiate debut, is 18 over and in 58th, but is three over in round two after shooting 87 in the first round.
The Lancers lead NM State (fifth, 32 over), which has been top four team in the Western Athletic Conference the last three years; Idaho and 2017 Big Sky Conference champion Sacramento State (tied for sixth, 34 over); UC Riverside (eighth, 46 over), 2017 Missouri Valley Conference champion Wichita State (ninth, 53 over) and San Diego (10th, 58 over).
