The Lancers closed out the final 11-and-a-half minutes of the game on a 38-12 run to down the Redhawks. Seattle U came into the season picked to finish third in the WAC's preseason poll after it won the 2018 conference tournament.
"We obviously had a great fourth quarter. I thought we did a real nice job keeping our composure through the first three quarters," Coach Jarrod Olson said. "Seattle played great, and we hit a really good streak in the fourth quarter. We did a good job of just pushing through and getting some stops."
CBU has now won five of its last six games to improve to 11-10, 4-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and Seattle U slides to 1-20, 1-7. The Lancers are on the road next week to play at Chicago State on Thursday and Kansas City on Saturday.
Britney Thomas and Ane Olaeta each logged double-doubles to help lead CBU to victory. Thomas scored 39 points on 17-for-23 shooting and also had 11 rebounds in just 28 minutes. Ane Olaeta went 12-of-20 from the floor to tally 25 points along with 11 assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Thomas scored 25 of her points in the second half. Her 39 points were the second most of any Lancer in an NCAA-era game, and tied for the 14th most for any player in Division I this season. She was just five points off the all-time single game record of 43 for CBU, which was set by Kamille Diaz against Point Loma on Feb. 25, 2017. Thomas' 17 field goals made were a single-game record for CBU, though.
"We did a really nice job of moving the ball to get [Thomas] some good looks and she did a great job finishing," Olson said. "In the fourth quarter, she did a really nice job protecting the paint, and obviously that was huge down the stretch."
Olaeta's 11 assists were also tied for the third most in an NCAA-era game for the Lancers. They were just one of the record of 12 set by Diaz twice in her career.
"Ane really got us going in the beginning, they were really having a hard time defending her on the ball screens," said Olson, as Olaeta had nine points in the first quarter alone. "She was really shifty today and finished well at the rim."
Emma Meriggioli shot a perfect 5-for-5 from three to tally 15 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals for CBU.
"There was a stretch there where Emma made a bunch of little plays – a steal here, a pass there and then she would get loose for a big three," Olson said. "Her composure all the way through was great. She was very steady and helped keep people level."

It was far from a three-person game for CBU, though.
"When you look at the box score, it does kind of look like it was those three, but there is so much that goes into all those people getting those kind of plays," Olson said. "It just all came together there and that was great to see."
Seattle U led for just about the entire opening 28-and-a-half minutes of the contest, and were up 71-62 with 1:22 to play in the third quarter. CBU closed out the frame on a 6-0 run, with Delacy Brown (seven points), Thomas and Olaeta all contributing, to make it just a 71-68 deficit going into the fourth.
