Lancers Nab Top Five Spot at Invitational

RESULTS
SPRING, Texas – A great first day at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational has California Baptist University in position for its best-ever finish at an NCAA Division I event.
With round two being suspended early due to darkness, the Lancers are currently six-over-par with seven to nine holes left to play in round two. It has CBU in fifth place going into the final 27 holes of the event, which is being hosted by Houston Baptist at Augusta Pines on Tuesday.
CBU trails the overall leaders at even par, Florida Gulf Coast and North Dakota State, by just five strokes. The Lancers shot seven-over-par 295 in Monday's first round, and are one-under with several holes left to play in round two.
Prairie View A&M and Houston lead CBU in third and fourth place at three-over and five-over par, respectively. The Lancers hold a slight lead over the Western Athletic Conference's The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (sixth, +7), with the rest of the 16-team field coming in at 20-over par and above.
While four Lancers rank in the top 25 individually so far, true freshman Harrison Kingsley led the team on Monday. The Murrieta native is tied for ninth place individually at one-under par. He finished the first round with a three-under-par 69, and is currently two-over with eight holes left in his second round.
Stetson's Baylor Payne currently leads the 88-player field at five-under par. The top-four golfers are three-under, while the top eight come in at two-under par.
Senior Ben Hallam is two-over-par with six holes left in his second round. He carded a 74 to start the day and is currently even par through 12 holes of round two. John Hayes and Ryan Monsalve are one stroke off Hallam and tied for 24th at three-over par.
Monsalve shot 75 in round one and is even par through the next 11 holes, while Hayes carded a 77 and is two-under through round two.
Connor Benjamin is on pace for the best round of his collegiate career going into Tuesday. The third true freshman in CBU's lineup overcame a first-round 80 by shooting one-over 10 holes into round two.
