RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University made a big statement this weekend at the RCC Invitational. CBU notched eight top-10 finishes between two events, while claiming first-place finishes in both the 1,500 meter and 3,000-meter events.
"This should set us up well for the Oxy Distance Carnival this upcoming weekend," said Coach Adam Tribble, whose team is next in action at the Occidental Invitational next Saturday.
Coming off of a record-breaking performance last weekend, Anett Somogyi claimed her second first-place finish in as many races on the track. Somogyi, the defending Western Athletic Conference Cross Country champion, won with a time of nine minutes, 45.22 seconds, which ranks second in the program's record book.
Anna Mate's second-place performance with a time of 9:47.02 places her third all-time in the school record book. Emilie Renaud (third, 9:51.11) and Fruzsina Ladanyi (fourth, 10:05.88) rounded out the top four.
Karolina Iznerowics (sixth, 10:13.70) and Maria Paula Guerrero (ninth, 10:25.22) posted top-10 finishes and Linda Palumbo took 14th in 10:49.82.
