Somogyi Takes Third Straight First-Place Finish

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – California Baptist University saw another first-place finish from Anett Somogyi on Saturday at the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic.
This marks the third time in as many races that Somogyi took the top spot this season. Somogyi also demolished her previous personal best for the 5,000-meter by more than 40 seconds with a 16 minute, 26.78 seconds run time. This time also places second all-time on the school record list.
Anna Mate took top-10 honors, as well, with a 16:56.91 time to finish sixth in the field. Karolina Iznerowicz, the WAC Cross Country Freshman of the Year, took 13th and Fruzsina Ladanyi took 16th.
Maria Paula Guerrero (18:01.27) and Linda Palumbo (18:03.58) wrapped up the race for the Lancers at 34th and 36th, respectively to give the Lancers a standout performance in the 153-runner field. CBU returns to action in two weeks' time for the UCR Invitational.
Saturday marks the first 5,000-meter competition for Mate, Iznerowicz, Ladanyi, Guerrero and Palumbo in their collegiate track careers.
In the 1,500 meter, five CBU runners set new personal bests. Emilie Renaud took fourth place in her first collegiate track race at 1,500 in 4:33.75.
Natalia Novak (4:35.95), Lara Orrock (4:55.75) and Mary Andrews (4:58.16) all set new personal bests on the day. Novak, Orrock and Andrews took fifth, 22nd and 24th to give the Lancers four top-25 finishers.
Anna Bartlett grabbed 35th and Chloe Beedy set a personal best time of 5:17.63.
