SEATTLE – Ben Hallam secured a top-five individual finish in a packed field for California Baptist University at the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational on Tuesday at Chambers Bay.
Hallam finished nine-under-par 204 (69-67-68) after shooting three-under 68 in the third and final round. It was the fourth best 54-hole total in program history and four strokes off the all-time record.
The Lancers finished in a tie for 10th place out of 18 teams with an even-par total of 852 (281-283-288), which ranks fifth in the program's all-time, three-round scores, after they capped off the tournament at four-over 288.
A total of five top-100 teams in Golfstat's NCAA Division I rankings competed at the Redhawk Invitational. Forty-first ranked UCLA won the event with an 815, while the Bruins' Hidetoshi Yoshihara won the individual title by shooting 200.
Fresno State took second (827) and No. 53 Oregon State took third (837), while Drexel (840) and UT Arlington (841) rounded out the top five. Seventy-first ranked Utah took sixth, while the Lancers tied with No. 90 Indiana and host Seattle U for 10th.
Seven birdies fueled Hallam to a 68 on Tuesday. It continues his streak of never finishing outside the top-30 individual standings of any tournament this season; his eighth top-20 finish, third in the top 10 and first in the top five.
Ryan Monsalve finished tied for 40th out of 102 golfers with a 214 (69-70-75) after shooting 75 on Tuesday. Harrison Kingsley was CBU's second scorer in the third round, with a 71, to complete a 217 (72-74-71).
Dan Heron's 74 was the third best round for the Lancers on Tuesday, as he polished off a 219 (73-72-74). John Hayes tied Monsalve for the final scoring spot with a 75, as the freshmen shot 221 on the week (71-75-75).
CBU ends the regular season at UC Santa Barbara's Sandpiper Intercollegiate in two weeks. The Lancers then wrap up their debut campaign in NCAA Division I at the Western Athletic Conference Championships April 27-29 in Lakewood, Wash.
