GREELEY, Colo. – Ryan Mota's power surge continued in California Baptist University's Western Athletic Conference series finale at Northern Colorado on Sunday.
For the second day and game in a row, Mota homered to supply the Lancers with their one run in a 6-1 loss to the host Bears. CBU still took the series, its fourth series victory of the year in the WAC to move to 26-17, 11-7 in the conference.
Northern Colorado moves to 9-28, 5-13, while the Lancers return home for four-straight games next week. Hawaii visits for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday at Totman Stadium before CBU resumes WAC play with Utah Valley Friday through Sunday.
Chad Castillo and Damon Keith also had base hits, along with Mota, on Sunday. The Bears took a 3-0 lead with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the third.
Mota made it 3-1 when he crushed a solo homer to lead off the fifth, but UNC padded its lead with three more runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh.
Travis Booth threw 1.2 shutout innings at the end of the game for the Lancers, giving up just one walk in relief. Andrew Bash threw the first 5.2 innings for CBU and struck out six in the process.
