LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- All five California Baptist University golfers shot at least 76 in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Dan Heron and Ben Hallam both shot par or better at the Oakbrook Golf Club on Sunday. All five Lancers go into Monday's third and final round in top-30 standing, with two in the top-10 and three in the top 17.
CBU cannot officially register a team score, as the team is ineligible for the WAC team title due to the transition to NCAA Division I. It would have shot a 289 on Sunday, which is a shot lower than the 290 it would have put together in round one.
Kansas City leads the team standings with a 568, followed by Grand Canyon (575) and Seattle U (577). Grand Canyon's Jake Chanen moved up to take the individual lead, with a 139 (72-67) through 36 holes.
Heron had the best round of the day for the Lancers at one-under-par 70. It moved him 10 spots up the leaderboard into a ninth-place tie with a 144 (74-70). He had four birdies on Sunday, and played the back nine two-under par with birdies at holes 10, 13 and 14.
Four birdies powered Ben Hallam to an even-par 71 to give him a 176 (75-71) to climb eight spots into a 17th-place tie. The senior closed out the round with birdies at 16 and 17.
Harrison Kingsley still holds the best position on the leaderboard for CBU, in a three-way tie for sixth place with a 143 after he logged a 75 on Sunday. He started strong with three of his four birdies over his first six holes.
Justin Cross cut seven strokes off his first-round score, with a 73, on Sunday. The true freshman's 153 (80-73) puts him in 30th place. He birdied at holes one and six to play the front nine even par.
Ryan Monsalve shot 76 in the second round to piece together a 149 (73-76) that has him in 23rd place.
CBU will tee off Monday's third and final round from 8 a.m. to 8:32 a.m. Fans can follow along with live stats provided by Golfstat.
