RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University women's basketball kept the talent pool full during the recent National Signing period, adding two all-conference players from Wisconsin and an All-CIF caliber guard.
JAELYN ACKER
Acker led her Germantown High School team to a 37-4 record over the past two years to earn herself a selection to the Greater Metro Conference First Team the last two years. Acker is a double-digit scorer, who also nabbed 82 steals during her senior season, which was good for second most on the team.
MIA MOREL
The Madison Memorial Spartan is a three-time Big Eight Conference First Team honoree, including two Player of the Year awards. She is also a two-time Women's Basketball Coaches Association Wisconsin All-State First Team pick and earned All-Area Second Team distinction. Morel's team found success along with her, as they won three conference championships and two state titles.
Morel reached the 1,000-point milestone in less than four full seasons after she averaged 15.7 points in her shortened senior campaign. She's also a strong two-way player, with a 4.4 steals per game average as a senior.
"Jaelyn and Mia both played for the Wisconsin Lakers, one of the top club teams in Wisconsin and the same team that gave us Cassidy Mihalko, Olivia Weber, Emma Meriggioli, Caitlyn Harper and others," said Head Coach Jarrod Olson about the prolific pipeline CBU women's basketball has developed with the state of Wisconsin. "They will complement each other well and have a great chemistry on the floor together. Mia has been a big time winner at the high school level in Wisconsin and Jaelyn is coming off a terrific junior year, both in high school and with the Lakers".
TRINITY SAN ANTONIO
San Antonio has no shortage of accolades on her resume, with three all-tournament team honors in events hosted by Redondo Union, Mark Keppel, and Burroughs High Schools. On a conference level, she was twice selected to the All-Inland Valley League First Team while playing at Rancho Verde High, and once to the All-Big VIII League First Team while playing at Centennial. She gets it done off the court, as well, after she picked up Big VIII League All-Academic honors in 2019-20.
San Antonio has also garnered awards at the regional and state levels, with All-Area Second Team (Open division), Scorebook Live Inland Empire Second Team, CIF All-State Second Team (Open division), and All-CIF Second Team (Open division) accolades to her credit. Her team also awarded her with the 2019-20 Defensive Player of the Year honor after she averaged 4.3 steals per game.
"Trinity will continue our successful line of local players: Kamille Diaz, Tori Mitchell, Delacy Brown, Britney Thomas and now Trinity," Olson said. "She plays for one of the best high school programs in the Inland Empire and for West Coast Premier, the top club team in the Inland Empire. She will bring a winning attitude and great work ethic to go along with her exceptional athleticism. I expect her to do great things at CBU.
"I am really excited about adding Trinity, Jaelyn and Mia to our team. It has been an unusual recruiting process for everyone in the 2020 class, and I am thankful that we have been able to add such quality players and people to our team. This is an exciting group that Lancer fans will really enjoy watching and I am looking forward to coaching them".
