Lancers Finish Final Round in Seventh

COTO DE CAZA --- California Baptist University finished the final round of the Orange County Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, as the Lancers came away in seventh out of 17 teams.
With darkness suspending play during Monday's second round, the 17-team field had to play out the final three holes of round two before tackling the third and final round.
Cal State Fullerton caught San Francisco during the final 18 holes, as the two teams tied for first place with a 12-over-par 876. CBU finished the two-day tournament with a 300-304-301=905 to miss the top-5 by five strokes. UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, and UC Irvine all tied for fourth with a 36-over-par 900.
Justin Cross remained in the top-10 for the Lancers individually, firing off a 70-77-75=222 to finish tied for ninth. Ryan Monsalve made the largest jump up the leaderboard for the Lancers, moving up 17 spots to take T-29th. Monsalve shot a 78-76-73=227 to improve his score all three rounds.
John Hayes finished T-36th, Connor Benjamin finished T-40th, and Jacob Smith climbed 13 spots to take T-66th. Hayes shot a 76-74-79=229, while Benjamin recorded a 76-77-77=230. Smith made his way into the 70's in the final day with a 76 and finished with a 239.
Derek Castillo played an even-par final round to finish with his 8-under-par 208 to win the event by seven strokes.
The Lancers will play host the next time they are on the course, hosting The Joust on Feb. 24-25 at Goose Creek Golf Club.
