RIVERSIDE – California Baptist completed its non-conference schedule Thursday night against Westcliff University, handling the Warriors soundly, 108-43.
The Lancers tied their program record of three-pointers made in a game with 20. It's the third time they've hit that mark and the second time against the Warriors, doing it in last season's matchup as well. The team's impressive total of 17 steals ties it for the fifth-best effort in program history.
CBU set another women's NCAA-era program record by grabbing 70 rebounds as a team, smashing the previous mark of 64 matched earlier this season against Life Pacific, and originally set in 2015 against Notre Dame de Namur.
Stifling defense was evident throughout the game, including the Warriors shooting just 20.6 percent (14-68) from the field, the lowest average allowed this season.
Taylor Wu led all scorers with 23 points, the second time this season the freshman has led the way in the scoring column. She also did so against Ottawa (AZ) when she set the all-time freshman scoring record with 37 points and the program record for made three's in a game with 10.
Delacy Brown started the game and was nearly unstoppable in her limited minutes. She scored a season high 19 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds to go with four steals in less than 18 minutes of game time.
Gracie Champion increased her season best points output by scoring 14 points on 5-11 shooting, 4-8 from beyond the arc. Sydney Palma was getting it done in the details, grabbing 10 boards and dishing out seven assists. Ragnheidur Einarsdottir grabbed a team high 11 rebounds and had a double-double within sight with nine points.
Georgia Dale (14 points) and Ane Olaeta (10 points) finishes the list of Lancers in double-digits, while Olaeta added nine assists, falling just one assist shy of a double-double for the fourth time this season.
The Warriors led for an instant after making a free throw to open the scoring in the game, but it was all CBU after that, scoring nearly at will. That included a 20-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters.
CBU will be back at it in Riverside next week when they welcome Kansas City (Feb. 19) and Chicago State (Feb. 22) to the CBU Events Center.
