Lancer Women Picked Second for WAC Championships

HOUSTON – The Western Athletic Conference's pre-championship poll was released Tuesday, with California Baptist University's women being picked to finish second this week.
The WAC Championships will be hosted at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston for the second year in a row Wednesday through Saturday. It is the second season CBU is competing in the WAC after it was previously a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for five seasons (2014-18).
The Lancers have already earned the respect of their peers in their new conference, as the women were selected to pick second in the WAC's pre-championship poll, as voted on by the conference coaches.
CBU received three first-place votes for a total of 42 points, which was just three off six-time defending conference champion Northern Arizona (45 points, four first-place votes). There is a big drop off from there, as NM State was selected to take third (33), while CSU Bakersfield (29) and Northern Colorado (25) round out the top-five. The Lancer women took fourth in the WAC last season.
On the men's side, CBU was picked to finish fifth with 18 points, and will look to improve on that projection after taking second place in the WAC in 2019. UNLV is the favorite (35, five first-place votes), followed by Air Force (28, two first-place votes) and Grand Canyon and Wyoming, which are tied for third (24).
