Harper to Represent WAC on NCAA Student-Athlete Engagement Group

INDIANAPOLIS --- California Baptist University's Caitlyn Harper will represent the Western Athletic Conference on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group, the NCAA announced on Monday. The group, which was formed in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), will serve as an amplifying voice for women's basketball players on key initiatives, legislation, and various other issues.
"I am so thankful to have this opportunity to be a part of such a special group and I look forward to working with these women to make change for women's basketball," Harper said of her appointment. "I get to have a direct impact and have a voice on issues regarding women's basketball."
Harper is the lone representative out of the WAC, as the group consists of current NCAA Division I women's basketball student-athletes from all 32 D-I conferences. Individuals were selected after being nominated through the WBCA NCAA Division I Conference Captains program that includes a head coach or captain in each conference with whom the WBCA communicates regularly on important issues.
Each captain submitted the name of a player from their team or conference who they believed would be a good representative for all women's basketball players in their conference. The group will meet monthly via teleconference/videoconference.
Harper is a redshirt sophomore and accounting major. She averaged 16.0 points, nine rebounds and two blocks per game last season for it was cut short due an injury. The term of service in this group for each student-athlete will coincide with athletics eligibility for competition.
