NORCO --- Taylor Summit delivered the game-winner for California Baptist University on Friday, as the Lancers took down the Utah Valley Wolverines, 1-0.
The win pushes the Lancers to 4-6-1 on the season and 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference, while the Wolverines suffer their first loss in conference play. Utah Valley is now 7-5-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in the WAC.
The Wolverines entered the game as the WAC preseason favorites and defending champions from the shortened 2021 spring season. Both teams went back and forth for the full 90 minutes, as a combined 36 shots were recorded.
Despite the plethora of shots taken, only a combined eight would be on frame, as the Lancers counted for five and the Wolverines recorded three.
It came down to the final 10 minutes, as Taylor Summit received a deflection well outside the box. Summit was the first to the ball and wasted no time firing a shot to the top left corner of the net for her first game-winner in her career.

Romy Salvador was stellar for the Lancers between the sticks, coming up with her biggest save in the 60th minute on a 1-on-1 situation. It marks her fourth shutout of the year and 17th in her career, which moves her to tied for third all-time in career shutouts.
Karley Weeks and Amy Aquino paced the Lancers' offense with four shots apiece, while Devyn Kelsey and Makayla Soll recorded two each.
"We've been on the road for four of the last five games, so being home today was a huge help for us," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We are not at full strength as we have players that are still trying to get healthy. I didn't think we started particularly well in the first 25 minutes. We played a bit frantic, not possessing the ball as well as we should have. After that, we began to take control of the game as we created some very good attacking opportunities. We know what we need to do to execute and be successful. Romy came up big with a few big saves until we broke through for the game-winning goal. And, what a goal it was! Taylor hit a goalasso to score her first collegiate goal and give us the three points. Our backline did a very good job shutting down their attack. Makayla Soll, Karley Weeks, and Amy Aquino were catalysts for us coming off the bench. We'll enjoy this result tonight and begin preparing for Dixie State tomorrow."
