RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University women's basketball started the season 1-0 for the third-straight year after downing UC Riverside in a tight Crosstown Showdown last week, 62-59. The win pushes their regular-season win streak to 28 in a row now, dating back to a win over Seattle U on Feb. 29, 2020.
The Lancers now set their sights on arguably the most anticipated game since playing #2 Stanford on Thanksgiving Day in 2019, as they head north to take on #15 Oregon State in Corvallis. Following the tussle at Gill Coliseum, CBU will play host for the first time this season, welcoming UC Irvine to the Events Center on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m.

Before the season even began, the Beavers were having a good year. After winning in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, OSU opened the 2021-22 season ranked #14 in the AP Preseason Poll. A pair of OSU players in Taylor Jones and Talia von Oelhoffen were named to the Pac-12 Preseason Team, while Kennedy Brown earned a Preseason Honorable Mention nod.
There was no let down once games got underway. The Beavers opened the season by hosting Loyola Marymount University, soundly defeating the Lions, 82-52. Eleven Beavers scored in the season-opener, four going for double-digits. As a team, Oregon State was sound on both ends of the floor, shooting 53.1 percent (34-64) from the field while blockings 13 LMU shots and nabbing a dozen steals on the defensive end.

The Anteaters have had a busy start to the 2021-22 season, playing three games in less than a week to begin the year. They opened with wins against Westcliff (114-53) and soon-to-be WAC member Southern Utah (81-65) before falling to San Diego State (68-60) to close out the homestand 2-1.
When CBU and UCI met for the first time ever last year, the Lancers returned to Riverside with a convincing 72-55 victory on the back of a huge game by Ane Olaeta, who had 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a career-high seven steals in the Bren Events Centers.
True Freshman Kayla Williams was held to 11 points on 4-19 shooting and five turnovers against the Lancers last season, but this year, Kayla Williams earned Preseason All-Big West honors a year after averaging 14.4 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.
