CORVALLIS - California Baptist University women's basketball faced off with a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time in program history, but fell just short of completing the upset bid over No. 15 Oregon State in Corvallis, 80-72. The Lancers now sit at 1-1 on the young season, concluding the 28-game regular season win streak that began on February 29, 2020 at Seattle U.
Caitlyn Harper led all scorers with 23 points while Georgia Dale continued her incredible start to the season with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in a game-high 35 minutes played. Ane Olaeta and Palma each scored 11 points to round out the Lancers in double-figures.
The first quarter saw both teams shoot the lights out as CBU shot 55.6 percent and OSU was hitting at a 52.9 percent clip from the field. CBU was spreading the load as six Lancers scored in the opening period, led by Harper who had seven points on 3-4 shooting.
The second quarter saw CBU build its lead to as much as nine before going into the locker room with a six-point cushion. Harper and Sydney Palma were both in double-digits at the half with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Lancer shooting percentages stayed hot at 48.7 for the half, while the Beavers dipped to 42.9 at the half.
Quarter number three saw new energy from the Beavers, who started the period on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 47 each before a Trinity San Antonio steal and dish led to a Georgia Dale fastbreak layup. The Beavers would eventually build a significant lead, using a monster third quarter offensively, while holding CBU to 20 percent shooting from the field.
CBU never waved the white flag, clawing back from being 17 points down to within five with a minute and a half to go in the game. The Lancers held OSU to just 1-7 shooting to end the game, but were unable to muster a final push to complete the upset bid.

A 9-0 run by the Lancers in the last 3:33 of game time has CBU back within single-digits of the Beavers. Still a lot of basketball left to play in Corvallis!#LanceUp⚔️ pic.twitter.com/0i7A5BJSew— California Baptist Women's Basketball (@CBUwbb) November 18, 2021
