WBB PREVIEW: Lancers Open Conference At Seattle U, Bring 17 Game WAC Win Streak With Them
12/29/2021 1:49:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE – After closing out the non-conference slate with a 9-2 record and on a four-game win streak, California Baptist University women's basketball turns its sights to its first-ever Western Athletic Conference title defense. The challenge begins with a trip to Seattle U to take on the Redhawks.
The Lancers will start 2022 ranked No. 4 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, their highest ranking in the poll in program history. The Lancers also bring in a 17 game conference win streak that began at Seattle U on Feb. 29, 2020. Since the streak began, CBU has won WAC contests by an average of 14.6 points per game.
CBU begins the second phase of its schedule with three players averaging double-figures. Caitlyn Harper leads the WAC with 18.5 points per game, with Ane Olaeta not far behind at 16.0. Reigning WAC Player of the Week Britney Thomas had a monster 29-point effort in the final non-conference game against Cal Poly, helping bump her average to 10.6 points, as she rounds into peak form just in time for league play.
GAME INFORMATION – Sunday, Jan. 2
Opponent: Seattle U

The Redhawks put a real scare into the Lancers in game one of last season's back-to-back in the Emerald City. Seattle outscored CBU 38-32 in the second half, nearly completing the comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Lancers held on for the 66-64 victory.
All three Redhawks who scored in double-digits in that game: Bree Calhoun (16), McKenzi Williams (11) and Georgia Kehoe (11) remain on the squad this season. Calhoun and Williams are still the team's main scoring threats, averaging 10.2 and 10.1 per game, respectively.
CBU and Seattle U have just one common opponent from their non-conference schedules, as each faced off with UC San Diego. While CBU pulled out the 74-73 win in La Jolla, the Tritons took the game in Seattle, 60-44, in large part due to stifling the Redhawk shooters to the tune of 27.8 percent (20-72) from the field and 14.3 percent (3-21) from beyond the arc.
