CBU Baseball Releases 2022 Schedule, With 31 Home Games on the Docket

RIVERSIDE – After winning a share of the last two Western Athletic Conference championships, California Baptist University baseball is preparing for a new-look landscape in the WAC as the Lancers released their 56-game schedule.
The conference has added four new Texas teams to the conference leading to the creation of two new divisions this season. The Lancers will compete for the WAC West Division title in their quest for a third-straight conference crown.
There are 31 home games and 25 road contests on the docket for this year. Season tickets are on sale now at CBULancers.com/baseballtickets, with prices at $99 for adults and $60 for children. Individual games can also be purchased HERE.
The Lancers have 11 games against teams who ended last season receiving votes in the NCAA Division I rankings. There's a single game with a Texas Tech team that advanced to the 2021 Super Regionals and ended the year ranked as high as No. 11 in Division I. CBU will also play two mid-week games against the University of San Diego.
CBU has several other intriguing non-conference meetings with Washington, Long Beach State, Hawaii, Air Force, UNLV and Yale. For the second season in a row, the Lancers' season will come to an end with the Crosstown Showdown versus UC Riverside.
"The 2022 schedule is going to be a tremendous challenge," Coach Gary Adcock said. "Non-conference matchups with NCAA D1 powers Long Beach State, Washington and Texas Tech will be exciting for sure, as well as a series at the Air Force Academy."
California Baptist is in the WAC West Division with Grand Canyon, NM State, Sacramento State, Utah Valley, Seattle U and Dixie State. The WAC's Southwest Division is made up of six Texas schools: The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Tarleton State and four WAC newcomers in Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin.
"The new WAC schedule will be tricky with two separate divisions. Playing some opponents in our division home-and-home, others only once and never playing the other division is a unique challenge," Adcock said.
The WAC is shifting back to three-game series this year after the conference played four-game sets in 2021 due to the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic. CBU will play 10 conference series and face most West Division squads twice with home-and-away series with Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, Seattle U and NM State. The Lancers will play a single series on the road at Sacramento State and a lone home set versus Dixie State.
Before conference play beings, the Lancers will open the year with non-conference series at home versus Coppin State (Feb. 18-20) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Feb. 25-27). The home and season opener is set for Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. with Coppin State.
The Purdue Fort Wayne series will reunite Adcock with Mastodons Coach Dough Schreiber, who served as Purdue's Head Coach from 1999-2016. Adcock was an assistant coach for the Boilermakers from 1999-2000.
"Hosting my mentor and old boss Doug Schreiber in Week two will be a personal highlight for me," Adcock said.
It's the start of a season-long, 10-straight home games to open the year, as the Lancers will then shift to WAC West Division play with a big home series versus Grand Canyon (March 4-6). The Lancers tied with the Lopes for the 2021 WAC regular-season title, before GCU went on to win the WAC Tournament and qualify for the NCAA postseason.
"Starting league in week three versus perennial power Grand Canyon at home is exciting and scary at the same time," Adcock said.
The Lancers' first road game of the year is a mid-week contest at CSU Bakersfield (March 8). The Roadrunners have won two conference titles since 2013 and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in 2015. CBU will then travel to Orem to face Utah Valley in WAC play (March 11-13).
The month of March continues back home with four-straight home games, including a mid-week clash with UNLV (March 14) and a three-game set with Yale (March 18-20). The Rebels have made 11 NCAA Regional appearances in their history and posted a 20-13 record last year. Yale won back-to-back Ivy League titles in 2017-18.
California Baptist will hit the road again for a big game at Texas Tech (March 22) and WAC series at NM State (March 25-27). The Aggies have won four WAC championships in their history (last in 2019), and recently made its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018.
March comes to a close with a home mid-week game with San Diego (March 29). The Toreros have been a force in Southern California over the last nine seasons. San Diego has posted seven 30-plus win seasons, including a 33-12 record in 2021, over the last nine years and reached the NCAA Regionals twice over that span.
It starts five-straight home games, with Seattle U (April 1-3) and CSU Bakersfield (April 5) visiting Totman Stadium. The Lancers will then play seven-straight road games at Air Force (April 8-10), Long Beach State (April 12) and Grand Canyon (April 14-16).
LBSU is another storied baseball power in Southern California. The Beach has won nine Big West championships, made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the College World Series four times and is coming off a third-place finish in the Big West Conference last year.
CBU returns home for another series with Utah Valley (April 22-24) before ending April and starting May with a series at Sacramento State (April 29-May 1). The Hornets have won four WAC championships, including two since 2017, and made three NCAA Tournament appearances since 2014.
A mid-week game at UNLV (May 3) will lead into the Lancers' second series with NM State (May 6-8) in Riverside. The Lancers will then be on the road for five-straight games at San Diego (May 10), Seattle U (May 13-15) and Washington (May 17). The Huskies are another exciting Power 5 matchup, as they're not far removed from their College World Series run in 2018.
CBU will then play six of its last seven games at home, with a home series with Dixie State (May 19-21) and a mid-week game with Hawaii to start things off. The Warriors are an accomplished program, as well, having made 13 NCAA Tournaments and won seven conference titles in its history.
The Crosstown Showdown series with UC Riverside (May 26-28) will put a cap on the 2022 season for CBU. The Lancers will play the series opener and season finale at home with the Highlanders, who will host the middle game.
