EDINBURG – California Baptist University women's basketball's 82-61 victory over The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Friday marked the fifth Western Athletic Conference game this season the Lancers have won by 20 points or more, with at least one in each series thus far.
The win also pushes the Lancers' active win-streak to 20 in-a-row, joining inactive Princeton as the only teams with 20 or more, as the Tigers remain at 22. Overall, CBU's record stands at 17-0 and 9-0 in the WAC, which is three games ahead of Grand Canyon and Utah Valley, as they are now tied for second place in the conference after the Wolverines took down the Lopes 63-51 earlier Friday in Utah.
Friday's game against the Vaqueros was all Caitlyn Harper, as the redshirt sophomore dropped 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Lancers. Twenty of Harper's points came in the first half, as the Lancers relied heavily on the post on their way to just a five-point halftime lead.
The second half saw the Lancers hit consistently from deep, going 10-19 from three in the third and fourth quarters. Taylor Wu drained three of those long balls, with Ane Olaeta, Sydney Palma and Tiena Neale each accounting for a pair.
Olaeta was the only Lancer to claim a double-double, scoring 10 points and dishing out 13 assists while grabbing five rebounds. This is the third time this season she topped double figures in the assist column and the second time with 13. Her season total climbed to 127 total assists, while today's efforts also improve her average to 7.9 per game. Both marks currently rank number one in the nation.
