
Lancers Move Up Leaderboard In Final Round At GCU Invitational

PHOENIX --- California Baptist University's men's golf team moved up three spots in the final round of the GCU Invitational on Tuesday, as the Lancers finished T-11th out of 16 teams.
The Lancers finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a 300-286-295=881 team score to climb over five spots in the final two rounds. Wichita State jumped over Grand Canyon to win the event with a 10-over-par 862 team score, and Southern Mississippi made the largest jump of the day up six spots to take second with a 12-over-par 864 team score. GCU dropped two spots and came away in third with a 14-over-par 866 team score.
Jacob Smith remained as the top finisher for the Lancers, shooting a 76-67-76=219 to place T-32nd. His 4-under-par 67 in the second round marked a career-low for the senior. John Hayes and Justin Cross moved up the player leaderboard as they both finished T-45th. Hayes shot a 73-75-74=222, while Cross carded a 76-76-70=222. Cross produced the team's low score on the day with a 1-under-par 70. James Mackie finished T-63rd with a 77-73-75=225, and Dan Heron placed T-73rd with a 75-71-81=227. Ryan Monsalve competed as an individual for the Lancers and placed T-86th with a 78-74-80=232.
As an individual, Michael Salazar of Grand Canyon won the event with a 71-70-66=207 to win by three strokes.
The Lancers will compete next at The Goodwin on March 25-27, hosted by Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
