PALO ALTO --- In the largest field of the season, California Baptist University teed it up with some of the best teams across the country on Thursday at The Goodwin.
Twenty-eight teams made the trek to Palo Alto to compete for the title at the Stanford Golf Course for the three-day tournament. The event began in 1968 and has been held every year except for three – 1981, 2011, and 2020. It marks one of the strongest fields in college golf this season, as Arizona State, Pepperdine, SMU, Georgia Tech, TCU, and UCLA make up some of the top-ranked teams in the country.
After the first day, Stanford holds a three-stroke lead over the field with a 5-under-par (275). The Cardinals are the defending champions after winning in 219 with a score of 832 (-8). Stanford has won the event 16 times.
No. 8 Arizona State is in second with a 2-under-par (278), while Denver and San Diego are in a tie for third. Washington and Washington State finished at even-par and are tied for fifth, while No. 12 Pepperdine is in seventh.
