
Lancers Close Out Final Round of Sac State Invitational

ELK GROVE --- California Baptist University closed out its third tournament of the season Tuesday, as the Lancers wrapped up the Sac State Invitational at the Valley Hi Country Club.
Sac State hosted the 54-hole two-day event on the par-72 6,514 yards Valley Hi Country Club. The first day was met with darkness as the 14-team field finished up the second round on Tuesday, followed by the final 18 holes.
Loyola Marymount used a 13-under-par 275 to capture the team title and move up one spot to edge out the day one leader of Long Beach State. LMU won the tournament by two strokes after shooting a 24-under-par 840 team score. Long Beach State was right behind the Lions in second with a 22-under-par 842 team score. Pacific was the final team under par at third, finishing with a 2-under-par 862 team score.
California Baptist moved up one spot in the final round to place 13th with a 913 team score.
John Hayes paced the Lancers for the tournament shooting a 78-73-72=223 to place T-50th. James Mackie moved into T-63rd with a 76-76-74=226, and Ryan Fisher placed T-76th with an 80-73-78=231. Justin Cross shot a 74-81-80=235 to take T-83rd, while Dan Heron signed an 80-84-78=242 to take 89th. Jacob Smith competed as an individual for the Lancers and shot a 78-75-73=226 to place T-63rd with Mackie.
Riley Lewis claimed the medalist honors with an 11-under-par 64-72-69=205 to win by one stroke. This marks the second straight tournament LMU has come away as the team champion.
The Lancers will travel to Arizona next to compete in the GCU Invitational on March 15-16 on the GCU Championship Golf Course.
