Lancers Finish Final Round at The Goodwin

PALO ALTO --- California Baptist University closed out The Goodwin on Saturday, as the Lancers produced their best round of the tournament.
In a stacked field of 28 teams, the Lancers finished with a 312-308-294=914 team score to improve their score in each round. The three-day event was held at the Stanford Golf Course, as top-ranked teams made the trek to compete for the top title. The event began in 1968 and has been held every year except for three – 1981, 2011, and 2020.
No. 8 Arizona State used back-to-back strong rounds to stay at the top of the leaderboard and claim the team championship. Stanford finished in second while No. 12 Pepperdine finished in third.
Jacob Smith made the biggest jump up the leaderboard in the final round, firing an even-par 70 to move up 22 spots to take T-109. James Mackie joined Smith at 109th after moving up five spots with a 3-over-par 73. Both Smith and Mackie finished with a 225 in the three days.
John Hayes finished T-131st with a 75-79-75=229, while Justin Cross placed 139th with a 79-80-76=235. Dan Heron signed an 87-85-83=255 to take 145th.
The Lancers will compete next at the Sandpiper Invitational on April 12-13 at the Sandpiper Golf Club.
