
Lancers In The Hunt After Day One at UC Santa Barbara Invitational

GOLETA --- California Baptist University is in the hunt at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers posted a 4-under-par 572 team score to sit in third out of 10 teams.
James Mackie, Ryan Fisher, and John Hayes all produced rounds under par to help move the Lancers within striking distance. The Lancers last shot 4-under-par after 36 holes back on April 1, 2019, at the Redhawk Invitational.
Boise State goes into the clubhouse as the day one leader with a 10-under-par 277-288=565 team score. Weber State finished with a 6-under-par 280-290=570 to edge the Lancers' 282-290=572 by two strokes. No other team in the field finished under par, but Utah State isn't entirely out of it with a 2-over-par 291-287=578 to place fourth.
The Lancers placed four golfers inside the top 20, as Ryan Fisher moved up eight spots on the leaderboard with a second-round 3-under-par 69 to sign a 3-under-par 141 to place tied for seventh. John Hayes is currently T-13th after an opening-round 2-under-par 70 and a second-round 2-over-par 74 to shoot an even-par 144. James Mackie shot a career-best 4-under-par 68 during the first round and is currently T-15th with a 145 on the card. Justin Cross finished with a 2-over-par 146 and is T-19th, while Jacob Smith recorded a 4-over-par 148 to T-27th. Dan Heron competed as an individual for the Lancers and is T-46th with a 9-over-par 153.
Isaac Buerger of Weber State is the day one leader after firing a 7-under-par 65-72=137.
The Lancers will look to make a push for the top spot during the final round on Tuesday, April 13, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
