RIVERSIDE -- California Baptist University women's basketball (20-0) will officially be playing in the postseason as the Women's National Invitation Tournament announced this morning that the Lancers had received the event's first automatic bid for the 2021 event.
CBU earns the automatic bid on the merit of its first-ever Western Athletic Conference regular season championship, which the team clinched on Feb. 20, after defeating Grand Canyon 79-64. The Lancers still maintain the longest active win streak in the nation, now standing at 23 straight dating back over a year to Feb. 29, 2020.
The Lancers will be joined by 31 other teams from across Division I, playing games at four different host sites to begin the tournament. Host cities include: Collierville, Tennessee; Rockford, Illinois; Fort Worth, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Selection Day will occur on Monday, March 15, following the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field. The 2021 WNIT will begin play on March 19 as the first three rounds will be played out over the course of five days. The Semifinals and championship games will be played March 27 & 29, respectively, at a yet-to-be-determined host site.
All rounds of the tournament will be streamed on FloHoops, with the championship game being televised. Details to be announced as the tournament draws nearer.

The history of the WNIT is relatively new as the tournament began in 1998, but it already has an impressive list of winners that include Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, Michigan and most recently in 2019, Arizona. The Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament began in 1998 with 16 teams playing for a postseason crown. The event has undergone four expansions since its inception, but its mission has remained the same: To give deserving teams a quality opportunity to play exciting games for a postseason title.California Baptist has a chance to pull off an undefeated season, but it already knows won't be playing in the NCAA tournament.@CBB_Central on a budding mid-major power sitting at 20-0 https://t.co/wCbsHAGNHZ
