WBB PREVIEW: Lancers Prepare For First Run At WAC Tournament Title
3/9/2021 3:42:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's basketball will be participating in the team's first ever Western Athletic Conference Tournament, but will have to until Friday to get started as the No. 1 seed the Lancers earned comes with a first-round bye. The Lancers will prepare to play either the fourth-seeded NM State or fifth-seeded Seattle U as those two teams will battle it out on Wednesday.
The Lancers enter the postseason having accomplished a lot of firsts in program history: undefeated Division I conference season, undefeated Division I regular season, College Insider Mid-Major top-10 ranking, and of course the first ever WAC Regular Season Championship.
However, there are a lot of achievements the team still has its eyes on: win the WAC Tournament, make a run in the WNIT, and end the season with a win. The completed list was difficult enough to finish, but the to-do list gets harder every step of the way -- a challenge the Lancers are looking forward to as they remain focused on the next game and nothing else.
They will be led by All-WAC selections in Ane Olaeta, who also garnered Player of the Year honors, Britney Thomas who was named to the WAC First Team and All-Defensive Team, and Caitlyn Harper, who made the cut for Second Team. Conference Coach of the Year Jarrod Olson and his staff will no doubt have their game plans ready for whomever the Lancers face in the semifinals or finals.
The Lancers will have to wait and see who they play, but no matter who the team is they end up facing, CBU is sure to get their best efforts. With each team owning two games of head-to-head game film on CBU, the Lancers are sure to see plays and defenses not previously in their opponent's repertoire.
