
Lancers Claim Podium Finish At UC Santa Barbara Invitational

GOLETA --- California Baptist University claimed its first top-three finish of the season on Tuesday, as the Lancers finished third out of 10 teams at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.
CBU posted a strong first day with a 4-under-par 572 and followed that up with a 4-over-par 292 to shoot an 864 team score. Only one team was able to shoot under-par on the day, as Weber State finished with a 3-under-par 285 in the final round to take second with a 9-under-par 855 team score. Boise State held on and captured the top honor with an 11-under-par 853 team score. The Lancers finished ahead of Utah State, Dixie State, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, CSUN, Southern Utah, and UC Riverside.
Ryan Fisher moved up one spot in the final round and was the top finisher for the Lancers. The true freshman finished with a 3-under-par 72-69-72=213 to take solo sixth out of 57 golfers. Both Justin Cross and John Hayes finished T-13th with a 1-over-par 217. Cross made the biggest jump up the leaderboard, moving up six spots after a 1-under-par 71 in the final round.
James Mackie finished the two-day tournament with a 68-77-77=222 to place T-26th, while Jacob Smith signed a 75-73-76=224 to take T-34th. Dan Heron competed as an individual for the Lancers and moved up two spots to finish T-44th with a 74-79-74=227.
Max Charles of Boise State rose to the challenge and moved up two spots in the final round to take the individual medalist honors with a 10-under-par 69-70-67=206.
The Lancers will finish their season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on April 30 – May 2 in Henderson, Nevada, at the Boulder Creek Golf Course. With the Lancers still in the transition process, no team score will count as the players will compete as individuals.
