
Mackie Cracks Top Three At WAC Championships

BOULDER CITY --- James Mackie continued to impress at the WAC Championships on Saturday, producing one of four under par scores in the field of 40 golfers.
The Lancers had the favorable tee time, as they set the pace for the day as the first team off with Dixie State. CBU took advantage of the circumstances like Grand Canyon, and Utah Valley did on day one, as all five Lancers moved up the leaderboard.
Mackie climbed five spots after his 1-under-par 71 performance, sitting in solo third with a 4-under-par 140.

Justin Cross moved up eight spots and is T-16th after signing a 1-over-par 73 on the day. He is now 3-over-par for the tournament with a 147. Ryan Fisher jumped up four spots and is T-20th, while John Hayes made the largest jump up nine spots at T-23rd.

Fisher produced back-to-back 74's for a 148, while Hayes finished with a 1-over-par 73 on the day for a two-day total of 149. Jacob Smith shot a 4-over-par 76 and moved up five spots to finish 32nd.
As for the team scores, NM State still leads the way with a 12-under-par 565 team score. Grand Canyon is in second with a 6-under-par 570 team score, while Utah Valley moved up one spot to take third with a 5-under-par 571 team score. With CBU in its third year of the transition process, the Lancers aren't eligible to post a team score in the standings.
Garrison Smith is still the clubhouse leader after a 1-under-par 71 moved him to 9-under on the tournament. Gabe Lysen of Utah Valley is one stroke of NM State leads the 40-player field with an 8-under-par 64 on the day.
The Lancers will tee off at 8 a.m. for the final round on Sunday, May 2, as high winds are in the forecast.
