
Lancers Among Top Teams After Day One At Nick Watney Invitational

FRESNO --- California Baptist University closed out the first day of the Nick Watney Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers went into the clubhouse in fifth out of 14 teams.
The Lancers took on the San Joaquin Country Club on the 7,001 yard par-71 course. CBU finished the first 36 holes with a 10-over-par 284-294=578 team score. Fresno State leads its home event with an 8-under-par 560 team score, while Cal State Fullerton, Sacramento State, and CSUN are tied for second with a 2-under-par 566 team score.
CBU put three golfers inside the top-20, as Eeli Kujanpää and John Hayes led the charge at T-11th. Kujanpää started his collegiate career with a 3-under-par 68 in the first round and followed that up with a 2-over-par 73 for a 1-under-par 141. Hayes signed a 1-under-par 70 and an even-par 71 to match Kujanpää in 11th.

Sean Citherlet finished at T-20th with a 2-over-par 73-71=144, while Ryan Fisher placed T-62nd with a 10-over-par 152. James Mackie rounded out the Lancers' lineup at T-81st with a 160 total.
Felix Schrott of CSUN is the day one leader, firing a 7-under-par 68-67=135 in the field of 84 golfers.
The Lancers will look to move up the leaderboard during the final day on Tuesday, Sept. 28, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
