
Lancers Finish In Middle Of The Pack At Nick Watney Invitational

FRESNO --- California Baptist University concluded the final round of the Nick Watney Invitational on Tuesday, as the Lancers finished in seventh out of 14 teams.
Cal State Fullerton captured the two-day event with a 7-under-par 845 team score to edge the field by five strokes. Sacramento State finished in second with a 2-under-par 850 team score, and Fresno State placed third in its home event with a 2-over-par 854 team score.
The final day proved challenging as 12 of the 14 teams finished over par in the final round. CBU came away in the middle of the pack with a 30-over-par 284-294-304=882 team score. The Lancers finished ahead of Seattle U, Hawaii, Gonzaga, Idaho, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Riverside.
John Hayes was the low man for the Lancers, putting together a 1-over-par 72 in the final round. He finished the 54 holes at T-11th with an even-par 213 total. Freshman Eeli Kujanpää joined Hayes inside the top-15 for his first collegiate tournament in 13th. Kujanpää put together a 1-over-par 68-73-73=214 total.
Sean Citherlet finished at T-48th with a 12-over-par 73-71-81=225, while James Mackie and Ryan Fisher finished 78th and 79th, respectively. Mackie recorded a 238 total while Fisher signed a 239 total for the two days.
Ethan Davidson of Sacramento State won the event with a 7-under-par 72-66-68=206 finish to climb three spots to take the individual medalist honors.
The Lancers will travel up to the Pacific Northwest on Oct. 11-12 for the Oregon State Invitational hosted at Trysting Tree Golf Course.
