Strong Open for Men's Golf at The Bill Cullum Invitational

Valencia, Calif. - California Baptist University men's golf is in fourth place after the first two rounds at The Bill Cullum Invitational at The Oaks Club at Valencia hosted by CSUN on Monday.
Today's performance was a complete team effort. John Hayes, a graduate student, led the way for the Lancers with a total score of 144 (72, 72) and is tied at 16th place. Sophomore Sean Citherlet and freshman Chanhee Ryu both posted scores of 145 each, and senior James Mackie and sophomore Eeli Kujanpää checked in scorecards totaling 146. Freshman Sam Jenkins, competing as an individual, turned in a score of 155.
Team scores consist of the cumulative total of its four best scores out of five per round. As a team, the Lancers have a team score of 577 after 36 holes for a fourth place standing headed into the final round on Tuesday morning. Host CSUN is at the top of the leader board at 563 while UC Irvine (567) is in second place and Hawaii (569) is in third place. CBU is currently ahead of UC San Diego (579), Utah State (581), Weber State (582), Northern Colorado (588), UC Riverside (593) and Southern Utah (623).
The 26-year old tournament recently changed its name to the "The Bill Cullum Invitational" after the legendary CSUN Men's Golf coach. 2022 marks the second year the CSUN hosted tournament is being held at The Oaks Club at Valencia following 24 years at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley. This year's field features 10 teams and 68 players who are battling at The Oaks Club course which is a par 72, 7,110-yard layout. The Oaks Club at Valencia, designed by PGA TOUR Design Services under consultation from two-time Major champion Mark O'Meara, offers 18 holes of challenging, breathtaking play.
Final round of action will begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
