
Men's Golf Finishes Runner-Up at CSUN's The Bill Cullum Invitational

Valencia, Calif. - California Baptist University men's golf registered a tournament-low team score for a single round of 276 to finish as runner-up at The Bill Cullum Invitational at The Oaks Club at Valencia hosted by CSUN on Tuesday. The Lancers dominated the day, outshooting the competition by 13 strokes in the final round as both CSUN and Northern Colorado posted the second-best team scores at 289.
The second place finish for CBU is a program best during the NCAA Division I era since 2018, while today's -12 round is the third best single-round in the history of the program and the best at the DI level.
Team scores consist of the cumulative total of its four best scores out of five per round. As a team, the Lancers turned in a team score of 853 (287, 290, 276). Host CSUN edged CBU by a single stroke with a score of 852 (283, 280, 289). CBU finished ahead of UC Irvine (861), Hawaii (862), UC San Diego (872), Utah State (875), Weber State (876), Northern Colorado (877), UC Riverside (891) and Southern Utah (927).
Once again, it was a total team effort for the Lancers with four players finishing in the Top 15. Individually, freshman Chanhee Ryu shot a tournament best five-under-par in the final round, tying the CBU program's lowest single round score for any tournament during the DI era. Ryu finished in 5th place with a total score of 212 (75, 70, 67). Sophomore Sean Citherlet (71, 74, 69) and graduate student John Hayes (72, 72, 70) both finished in a tie for 8th place with scores of 214. Senior James Mackie (72, 74, 70) turned in a total score of 216 to tie for 14th place, while sophomore Eeli Kujanpää (72, 74, 73) rounded out the scoring at 219 to finish in a tie for 22nd. Freshman Sam Jenkins, (83, 72, 81).
The 26-year old tournament recently changed its name to the "The Bill Cullum Invitational" after the legendary CSUN Men's Golf coach. 2022 marked the second year the CSUN hosted tournament was held at The Oaks Club at Valencia following 24 years at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley. This year's field featured 10 teams and 68 players who battled at The Oaks Club course which is a par 72, 7,110-yard layout. The Oaks Club at Valencia, designed by PGA TOUR Design Services under consultation from two-time Major champion Mark O'Meara, offers 18 holes of challenging, breathtaking play.
The Lancers will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, for the Herb Wimberley Invitational hosted by NM State on Oct. 17-18.
