Lancers Return Home for WAC Contest with NM State

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University volleyball opened a three-match home stand with a tightly contested 3-1 loss to Western Athletic Conference foe New Mexico State at Van Dyne Gym on Thursday night.
The Lancers won the opening set, 25-22, that had 14 ties and eight lead changes. The second set remained much of the same as the two teams were tied at 16-16 before the Aggies pulled away with a 9-4 run for a 25-20 decision. The fierce competition carried over into the third set with 12 ties and seven lead changes as it went down to the wire, tied at 22-22, before NM State pulled away for the 25-23 win to go up 2-1. In the fourth set, the Aggies were able to create separation late into the round to lead by as many as seven points before clinching the match 3-1 with the 25-20 win in the final frame.
Christine Graf posted 10 kills and six blocks, while Michalina Rola registered nine kills and nine digs. Paige Johnstone had a game-high 24 digs, and Leah Pease dished a team-high 19 assists.
CBU drops to 8-11 on the year and 3-5 in WAC play while NM State improves to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in league action.
The Lancers will host UTRGV on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Van Dyne Gym.
